Riversides Chess Tournament 2025

The Riversides School Chess tournament took place throughout March, fabulously organised by our very own Mr Daws.

16 participants, across all Key Stages, started the tournament playing in a round robin style format with points being awarded for playing, losing, drawing, and obviously winning. Points were also awarded for sportsmanship with an extra being awarded to anyone brave enough to play the tournament favourite. The top 8 went through to the quarter finals which saw some close competitive matches.  The semi-finals were both tense games; with spirited efforts, incredible honesty, sportsmanship and tenacity, with one player overcoming a 14 points deficit to win the game.

In the final, there was a 5-year age gap between players, with the younger competitor only having played for a year.  The spectators were on the edge of their seats while the game played out, ultimately the tournament favourite went on to take victory.

A huge well done to all who took part in the tournament, thank you to all staff that supported it and a huge thank you to Mr Daws for organising it – it was no mean feat with approximately 50 games played in total!
