How We Can Help You Protect Children

It’s a difficult time for schools and parents. There are increasing demands and it might seem that problems like harmful sexual behaviour are getting worse.

But we can help.

It’s not nice to think about, but children who are harmed come from all backgrounds and walks of life. So do the children who harm them. With the summer holidays coming, now is the time for everyone to know what they can do to keep children safe during the break and into the next school year.

Find out how we can help you, and share this email with your networks so that everyone knows how to play their part in protecting children.

Support for schools

We’ve been working with different schools to understand the challenges responding to and preventing harmful sexual behaviour. Now that we’re at the end of the second year of our Everyone’s Safer project, we’ve published a new report with some recommendations.

  • Designated safeguarding leads and RSHE teachers need time, training and support to undertake their jobs safely and in ways that uphold the wellbeing of themselves and the children.
  • Students may be able to absorb and reproduce the factual information taught in RSHE lessons, but this doesn’t guarantee behaviour change: students need tools not rules.
  • Schools cannot solve the problem of HSB alone: supportive partnerships with parents, carers and other professionals are needed.

Read our blog post for our top tips and find the full report.

Take a look at our information for schools, which includes free resources, information and guidance.

If you’re interested in the project and want to get involved, please get in contact with Laura Nott, our Schools Project Manager, on 07706 347981 or lnott@lucyfaithfull.org.uk

Support for young people

Our Shore website has anonymous advice and information for teenagers worried about their own or a friend’s sexual behaviour. Young people have told us that the site is “educational but fun” and “shows people they are not alone”.

Backed by young people and built by experts, we launched Shore in September 2023 and more than 25,000 people visited the website within the first 6 months. It’s a safe space for teenagers to learn about healthy relationships, sex and the law and how to manage concerns about sexual thoughts and behaviour. Shore has an anonymous chat and email service, where young people can get expert support.

Check out and share our animations and poster to help us spread the word.

Support for parents and educators

Our anonymous Stop It Now helpline can support any adult worried about a child or young person’s sexual behaviour. We’re open every weekday, including over the summer holidays.

Our experienced advisors will listen, won’t judge, and will give you the help you need. You don’t have to give your full name or address and if you’re not ready to speak to someone yet, you can use our live chat or email.
