Wellbeing
At Newbridge School we recognise that all our students are unique and constantly changing and developing. We aim to help them reach their full potential by providing care, support and a safe space to discuss sensitive issues.
Well-being sessions are dedicated to helping students reach their fullest potential. It can be a transformative experience for our students, which can help them cope with the difficult circumstances they face in their lives.
We can offer individual students well-being sessions, appropriate to their needs. Students can request sessions and/or be referred by staff, with our Safeguarding Team and Senior Leadership Team discussing the best possible options. If it is agreed that sessions are in the child’s best interest, Newbridge will offer an initial 6 sessions, one per week, which will be put into their timetable. Each session will be 45 minutes, within which will be reflection time and preparation for returning to lessons.
A humanistic approach will be used. This means the well-being lead will refrain from asking directive questions or engaging in advice giving and let the student direct where the session will go, through active listening and guidance. The well-being lead will be non-judgemental, genuine, empathic and aim to understand the student’s point of view. A variety of strategies, such as timelines, journals, Blob Trees, will be explained and demonstrated to enhance emotional understanding; building a “toolbox” for students to understand feelings and express themselves in the best way to suit their personal individual needs. Session journals will be kept for students to reflect upon and high light their journey. Further sessions can be discussed and put in place if it is felt they may be beneficial.
We aim to facilitate behavioural change, establish improve and maintain relationships, promote decision making, enhance potential, enrich self, enhance effectiveness and ability to cope; supporting our students to flourish in the future.
